How To Set Up A TikTok Profile For Advertising

Everything BuyerBridge partners need to know to help clients stay eligible for TikTok ads.

TikTok has rolled out a new requirement for advertisers: All TikTok ad accounts must now be connected to a TikTok profile (similar to a Facebook Page) in order to launch new campaigns.

Starting July 1, 2025, no new TikTok ads can be created unless this profile connection is complete.

Clients can create their TikTok account using a desktop browser, however, the profile must be linked to the TikTok Ads Manager using a mobile device. The mobile portion takes just a few minutes and ensures ad eligibility moving forward.

This guide walks agencies through how to assist clients without taking over their profiles.

What’s Changing for TikTok Advertisers

  • All TikTok ad accounts must be linked to a TikTok profile to launch new ads
  • This change takes effect July 1, 2025
  • TikTok profile creation can happen via mobile or desktop
  • TikTok profile linking to the Business Center must be done on mobile
  • Agencies may still manage campaigns, but clients must complete the initial linking

Who Needs To Take Action?

Ask your clients these two questions:

  1. Are you currently running TikTok ads?

  2. Do you already have a TikTok profile for your business?

  • If they answer no to either → Start with creating a profile

  • If they answer yes to both → Move directly to profile linking

How to Help Your Clients Set Up Their TikTok Profile

Clients can create their TikTok profile either by:

On Mobile:

  • Download the TikTok app from the App Store or Google Play

  • Tap “Sign Up” and follow prompts

On Desktop:

  • Visit tiktok.com and click “Sign Up”

  • Follow the steps to create an account

    Signup for TikTok on Mobile

Use a Recommended Email Address

To protect long-term access, we strongly suggest:

  • Company Owner Email
    e.g., john@abcmotors.com, ceo@driveautosales.com

  • Department or Shared Email
    e.g., marketing@abcbusiness.com, tiktok@yourbusiness.com

🔒 Pro Tip: Avoid using personal Gmail accounts like jessica123@gmail.com. If that employee leaves, the business risks losing access.

How to Get an Agency's QR Code for Clients to Scan

To link client accounts efficiently, agencies should generate and share a QR code from TikTok Business Center:

  1. In the Business CenterAssets (or Accounts, depending on UI) → TikTok Accounts
  2. Click Request access or Add a TikTok Account
  3. Choose access level (e.g. ad delivery), click Next
  4. Click Generate QR code, then copy the QR code to share
  5. Use the same QR code across all dealer accounts under this agency

How to Link the TikTok Profile to Your Agency Ad Account

Linking must be completed using the mobile TikTok app:

Steps:

  1. Open the TikTok app and log in

  2. Tap Profile (bottom right)

  3. Tap Add Friends

  4. Tap the QR code icon (top right)

  5. Scan your agency’s unique QR code from the Business Center

That’s it! Once scanned, your agency can manage ads through the TikTok for Business platform.

⚠️ Important:

  • You can only link one TikTok profile to one TikTok for Business account

  • Clients must authorize TikTok for Business to access their account during setup

Manual Invitation Option (If QR Code Doesn’t Work)

If scanning the QR code isn’t possible:

  • Your agency can manually invite the TikTok profile via the Business Center

  • Input the client’s TikTok username or email

  • The client must still approve the access request on mobile

Tips for Clients Concerned About Installing TikTok

No problem. Here’s a low-commitment workaround:

  1. The client creates a TikTok account

  2. Installs TikTok just long enough to scan the agency’s QR code

  3. Shares login (if needed) and deletes the app

Their ads will run normally, even without the app on their device

Revoking Access

Clients retain full control of their TikTok profiles. They can revoke access anytime:

  • In the TikTok app:
Go to Profile > Settings > Security > Manage App Permissions

  • In TikTok Business Center:
Remove access or adjust user roles

Email Template to Send Clients

Hi [Client Name],

TikTok now requires all advertisers to connect a TikTok profile to their ad account. Without this step, you won’t be able to launch new ads starting July 1.

You can set up your account via desktop at tiktok.com, but to complete the required ad account link, you'll need to use your mobile device (only takes a few minutes).

Please use a business email (e.g., marketing@yourdealership.com)—not a personal Gmail—to avoid access issues in the future.

After creating your profile, open the TikTok app and scan this QR code to connect with us:
[Insert Agency Provided QR Code Image or Link]

Note: Only one profile can be linked per business account. TikTok will ask you to approve access during setup.

You can delete the app afterward—your ads will still run!
